Nouvelle interview sur Valliue… Nous avons posé quelques questions au très sympathique Orjan Nilsen ! Le producteur norvégien évoque entre autres l’évolution de la trance, son futur album ainsi que la culture musicale française ! Retrouvez ses propos ci-dessous :

Salut Orjan, peux-tu te présenter pour ceux qui ne te connaissent pas ?

Je m’appelle Orjan Nilsen. Je suis un producteur de musique Trance et EDM de 35 ans qui vient de Norvège et qui adore faire de la musique et jouer pour les gens.

C’est la question de base de notre site. Quelle est ta définition de la musique électronique ?

Pour moi, la musique électronique est euphorique, rythmique, groovy et c’est quelque chose qui t’emmène en voyage peu importe que ce soit dur ou lent, ou si c’est quelque chose d’émotionnel.

D’où vient ton amour pour la Trance ?

Mon amour pour la Trance vient des années 95-96. Un ami suédois avait pris avec lui un CD “In Trance We Trust” et j’ai été tellement bluffé par la beauté de la musique groovy et par le fait qu’une seule personne puisse faire ça. Tu n’as besoin de personne d’autre, tu es ton propre patron donc c’est vraiment de là que ça vient, un vieux CD “In Trance We Trust”.

Fin mars, tu as sorti le single “Million Miles Away”, premier extrait de ton futur album “Prism” à venir sur le label Armada. Peux-tu nous en parler ?

“Million Miles Away” est une de ces chansons qui est juste venue de par ce qu’on pourrait appeler “the fire within you”. C’était moi prenant ma source d’inspiration, si on peut l’appeler comme ça, du fait d’avoir été à Ibiza. C’est juste que j’avais cette mélodie à la guitare en tête et quand je suis rentré chez moi et que j’ai fait ce son, il manquait quelque chose. Il y avait besoin de ce feeling d’Ibiza, et Rico et les gars ont fait un travail incroyable sur les vocaux et voilà, c’est comme ça que tout ça s’est construit.

Ce premier extrait semble très différent de ce que tu proposes habituellement. Ce nouvel album est-il l’occasion pour toi d’explorer de nouvelles sonorités ?

Clairement. Comme tous les albums en fait. Mais je pense que j’ai toujours été fier d’essayer de nouvelles choses, de me diversifier un peu. Je pense que “Million Miles Away” est en fait beaucoup plus proche des sons que j’ai produits à mes débuts que beaucoup de nouveaux sons qui sont sur l’album.

L’album arrive le 18 mai prochain. À quoi doit-on s’attendre ?

Et bien, cette fois, il y aura beaucoup plus de tracks avec des vocaux. Il y aura une nouvelle facette de moi. Je fais en sorte qu’il y ait toujours une nouvelle facette de moi mais j’ai aussi ramené quelques trucs pour lesquels les gens me connaissent, donc ca va être un album très diversifié. Je pense quand même que les gens vont plus apprécier les chansons avec une voix sur cet album.

Que ressens-tu juste après avoir participé à ASOT 850 à Sydney ?

Mon dieu, ça a tellement été un événement incroyable tout au long de la nuit. Et bien, c’est toujours super de jouer à l’ASOT mais cette fois c’était juste incroyable. C’était mon premier ASOT en Australie et ça m’a juste retourné la tête.

Dans une interview pour EDM Identity, il y a environ un an, tu parlais de potentiellement construire ton propre studio et faire des masterclass. Où en es-tu de ces différents projets ?

Et bien maintenant, je fais de plus en plus de masterclass. Je vais avoir un ordinateur portable que je vais apporter avec moi en tournée pour produire et je vais aussi faire une très grosse masterclass cet été pendant 5 ou 6 jours, donc je pense qu’on va arriver à faire quelque chose. J’ai fait une masterclass à Vancouver l’année dernière qui est passée en live sur internet et pour être honnête avec vous, je pense que c’est bien de transmettre ce qu’on a appris et en ce moment, j’ai l’impression que j’ai l’opportunité de faire ça.

En France, la Trance n’a pas la visibilité qu’elle mérite… Malgré la passion et le travail de certaines associations comme “Trance In France”, elle n’est pas représentée dans les grands festivals français. Comment peux-tu expliquer cela?

Je pense que la France découle d’une longue histoire avec une très bonne House et je pense que ça a toujours surclassé les autres genres. Vous avez les Daft Punk, vous avez David Guetta, vous avez tellement de monde et toutes ces personnes sont des producteurs de French House assez incroyables. Enfin, regardez la French House est un style à part ! Donc je pense que c’est assez dur pour les autres genres d’exister. Mais je vois aussi un futur radieux pour la Trance donc espérons qu’elle soit plus présente dans les festivals à venir.

Ce genre musical a connu son apogée dans les années 90 ! Penses-tu qu’elle peut revenir à son top niveau dans les années à venir ?

Pour être honnête, je ne pense pas que la Trance dépassera son top niveau. Je pense que dès qu’on revient à la musique, on revient à un système avec des fluctuations. Ça vient par vagues,  donc je pense vraiment que la Trance va revenir, même si je ne pense pas qu’elle soit vraiment partie. Elle a juste changé un petit peu et je crois qu’elle va continuer de changer et d’évoluer.

On sent en tout cas qu’elle prend un virage ces derniers temps ! Le duo Vini Vici qui collabore avec Armin van Buuren par exemple ! Que penses-tu de cette évolution de la trance, où les genres s’associent ?

Je pense que c’est pour le mieux. Si tu ne bouges pas et que tu stagnes, tu ne vas nulle part. Tu restes juste là et tu n’avances pas. Donc mélanger les styles, je l’accueille avec plaisir. Par exemple, j’adore jouer en live avec des beats plus House avec la mélodie de la Trance et je pense que ça marche. Donc je l’accueille à bras ouvert !

Sur scène, on sent que tu prends énormément de plaisir. La communion avec ton public est une consécration pour toi, ou tu préfères te retrouver seul dans ton studio ?

Je pense que j’ai besoin des deux. J’ai besoin d’être seul dans le studio pour faire de la musique mais après j’ai besoin d’aller dehors, d’interagir avec la foule et de voir comment ils réagissent. Parce que c’est le seul réel moyen pour moi de voir si ce que je fais marche réellement et si c’est apprécié par d’autres gens que moi !

Quels sont tes autres projets pour l’année à venir ?

Oh, il y a tellement de projets à venir. Je veux continuer à faire beaucoup de musiques. Je veux me concentrer un peu plus sur mon label et je veux aussi prendre d’autres directions dans ma vie, pas une différente, mais en explorer d’autres. Tu ne sais jamais ce qui va se passer donc bon tout ce que je peux vous dire, c’est qu’il va y avoir bien plus de musiques, bien plus de shows, et bien plus de moi !

Hello Orjan, could you introduce yourself for those who might not heard about you?

I am Orjan Nilsen. I am a 35 years old trance and EDM producer who came from Norway and who loves to make music and love to play for crowd.

This is the basic question of our website. What is your definition of the electronic music?

For me electronic music is euphoric, rhythmical, groovy and it’s something that takes you on a journey no matter what that journey might be if it’s hard or if it’s slow or if it’s something emotional.

Where does your love for Trance music came from?

My love for trance music actually came from 95-96. A friend of mine from Sweden took a CD with him ‘In Trance We Trust” and I was so bluff about how beautiful and how groovy it was and the fact that one person can actually make it. And you don’t need anybody else you are your own master so that’s where it came from basically, the “In Trance We Trust” old CD’s back in the days.

At the end of March, you have released the single “Million Miles Away », the first song of your upcoming album “Prism » which will be released on Armada. Could you tell us a little bit more about it?

“Million Miles Away” was one of those tracks that was just came about with what we actually call “the fire within you”; it was me having inspirational source if we can call it like that from being in Ibiza. It’s just that I had that guitar melody in my mind and i got back home and i made this track and it just lacked something. It needed that Ibiza feeling and definetly Rico and the guys were just like doing a great job on putting the vocals on it and yeah that’s how it came all about.

This first single seems really different than the stuffs you usually released. Is this new album the opportunity to explore a new artistic world?

Definitely! Like all albums are basically. But i think i’ve always taking pride to do new stuff to diversify a bit and trying to experiment a lot of stuff. I think Million Miles Away is actually so much closer to a lot of the things that i made back in the days than much of the new stuffs that are on the album

The album will be released on the 18th of may. What can we expect from it?

Well it’s gonna be a lot more vocal tracks this time around. There is also gonna be a new side of me. I always make sure there is a new side of me but i am also bringing back a couple of things that people might know me for so it’s gonna be a really diverse album but i do think people are gonna enjoy more the vocals that’s on there

How do you feel right now after playing ASOT 850 at Sydney?

Oh my god that was just such an amazing event the whole night it was absolutely insane. And well always playing in ASOT is a great feeling but this time it was just so awesome. It was my first ASOT in Australia and it just blew me away.

About a year ago in an interview for EDM Identity, you were talking about the fact that you could build your own studio and doing masterclasses. What is the status of those projects?

Well basically right now i am doing more masterclasses. I’m now getting a laptop that I am gonna bring with me on the road just to produce on the road and also i’m gonna do a really big masterclass in Bulgaria this summer for about 5 or 6 days so I think it’s starting to get somewhere. I did a masterclass in Vancouver last year that actually got online and to be honest with you it’s just like i think it’s good to teach people what you’ve learned and right now it seems like i’ve got a good opportunity to do just that.

In France, Trance isn’t as known as it should…Despite the passion and the work of some associations like « Trance In France », it isn’t represent in the big french festivals. How could you explain that?

I do think France come from a long history of really good house music and i think that’s always been overpowering the other genders. You have Daft Punk, you have David Guetta you have so many people and all this kind of people    are really amazing French house producers. I mean French house is like it’s own gender so I think it’s pretty hard to get any other genders in there. But I also see a bright future for it so hopefully it’s gonna be more trance at the other festivals.

This music style has been at its highest during the 90’s! Do you think that it can come back at its top level in the years to come?

To be honest I think Trance isn’t getting towards top levels. I think it’s always gonna be a fluctuation system when it comes to music, it’s gonna go in waves so I definitely think trance is gonna come back, although i don’t think it really left it just well change a bit and I think it’s gonna keep evolving and keep changing

We have actually seen some big changes during the past few months! Vini Vici doing a collab with Armin Van Buuren for example! What do you think of this evolution of trance, where different kinds of trance music are associating?

I think it’s better. I think if you keep still and you are stagnate you don’t go anywhere,    you just stand and still you are not going forward. So featuring a lot of styles I welcome it. Like I love to play around with housy beats with the musical and melodic style of trance and i think it works. So for me I welcome it with open arms!

On stage, we can see that you are having a lot of fun. Is the communion with the crowd a kind of an achievement for you, or do you prefer being alone in the studio?

I think I need both. I need to be alone in the studio to make music but then I need to go out, interact with the crowd and see how they react. Because that’s the only and honest way I can see if my stuff actually works and if it’s being enjoyed by more than just me.

What are your other projects for the years to come?

Oh there is so many projects! I wanna keep making a lot of music, I wanna focus a little bit more about my label and also i want to take more directions in my life, not go a different one but take other directions to. You never know what’s gonna happen so all I can tell you is that it’s gonna be a lot more music and a lot more tours and a lot more me!
